Andrea Iannone dipersiapkan untuk mengambil alih posisi Fabio Di Giannantonio pada balapan MotoGP Malaysia di Sirkuit Sepang, yang berlangsung pada 1-3 November 2024.
Di Giannantonio memutuskan untuk cuti di dua seri terakhir MotoGP 2024 guna menjalani operasi bahu, sehingga tim milik Valentino Rossi harus mencari penggantinya.
Menurut laporan dari media motorsport Italia, GPOne.com, kembalinya Andrea Iannone ke MotoGP semakin mendekat. Hanya tinggal menunggu pengumuman resmi untuk menegaskan kepulangannya ke dunia balap motor grand prix setelah lima tahun absen.
Iannone belum berlaga di MotoGP sejak 2020 akibat sanksi larangan berkompetisi selama empat tahun terkait kasus doping yang muncul setelah tes usai balapan MotoGP Malaysia pada 2019.
Meskipun begitu, bakat dan pesonanya memberikan Iannone kesempatan kedua untuk bersinar di Kejuaraan Dunia lainnya, yaitu WorldSBK.
Iannone dikenal sebagai salah satu rider berbakat dari generasi yang sama dengan Marc Marquez pada 2013, di mana keduanya pernah bersaing di tiga kategori: 125cc, Moto2, dan MotoGP.
